It’s a small world. Thank you for sharing this history of your life and those of the area. It really makes writing worthwhile to know someone out there finds relevance in it all. I really appreciate you commenting, and I can assure you I’ll be back to Hatvan some day to show it the appreciation it deserves.

Glad you liked Hatvan. The owner of the Sos Motel, Eva is a personal friend of mine and she runs a tight ship. As the market for new cars declined cars a few years ago, she invested in creating the motel above the dealership, she was very savvy in that respect. Pity you could not have seen inside the Turai Kastely. My late father went to school there. The kastely's inhabitants escaped to the UK during WW2 ( they were Jewish), all except the owner who was put to work by the Nazis, shovelling coal in the train station in Aszod where he eventually died. I actually met the daughters many years ago as they were given the opportunity to reclaim their inheritance, but they were not interested. My father escaped to the UK in 1956, met my mother and the rest is history so to speak :) I really enjoyed your article. Nice work!

Ha I know that’s what I was thinking. But it’s just off the road from Budapest to my wife’s home city so it’s a definite. This is certainly the joy of travelling and everyone has somewhere like Hatvan. Thanks for reading Jane

What a special find and more so because you were not expecting it. That is the joy of travelling! So lucky to come upon the mass and procession at just the right time also. Now you will need to return to check out the places which were closed!

Sometimes not having a fixed plan and let your sense of adventure guide you offers its rewards. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of Hatvan. The architectures are different from what I've seen. The castle, the intricate details on the design of the church is captivating. You captured it beautifully!

I love the quaint cottages in the Hadas district. It reminded me of the tiny village we visited in Dragor, Copenhagen.

It’s such a pleasant surprise. Often the well known places disappoint only for the small next town to be amazing. I wouldn’t say Hatvan was amazing but it was certainly pleasant and a great place to spend a day. Whenever you do that month I’ll have a good route suggested for you. I’m slowly visiting it town by town

Google maps was clearly trying to keep me away. Trip advisor too. Maybe it was a conspiracy. Either way they half succeeded. Would love to have had a snoop around inside that pink house/castle.

We love visiting places that you don't expect much from, and then finding all these surprises. Hatvan looks like a cool place to visit. In fact, would love to go back to Hungary and spend a month there.
Cheers for this post, and the storytelling that the photos do is inspiring!
